Introduction to Clinical Strain Counterstrain

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment-Lecture and Workshop

Lecture Objectives:

To provide the history, scientific theory, clinical applications of common problems that can be treated with Strain Counterstrain osteopathic Manipulative Treatment.

To provide insight as to the Diagnostic advantages of this system of treatment.

The laboratory workshop will cover:

Basic review of the principles of Strain Counterstrain Diagnosis and treatment.

Clinical Applications to myofascial conditions that present with: Shoulder pain, anterior chest wall pain, gastro intestinal symptoms, neck pain, headache, low back pain, knee pain and ankle-foot pain.

1330 - 1400 hrs    Registration

1400 - 1405 hrs    Introduction

1405 - 1500 hrs    History, principles, science and rules of Strain Counterstrain

1500 - 1530 hrs    Basic positioning techniques and diagnostic palpation of SCS tenderpoints

Break:

1545 - 1830 hrs    Clinical Applications of SCS to Clinical Conditions, Lecture then “hands on laboratory” for each condition. Starting with:

Shoulder pain

Anterior Chest Pain and Posterior Thoracic pain

End Evening Session with Questions and Personal Attention

Neck pain

Headache

1030 - 1200 hrs     Luncheon

1300 - 1600 hrs     Gastrointestinal Symptoms

Ankle and foot pain
 

Conclusion of Seminar with question answer and comments by participants and faculty.
